Boots without the Fur

Well y'all. I did it. I actually completed all of the requirements for my second undergrad degree. Woohoooo! Yesterday was my last day at my field study. Oh my goodness how weird is that? Now if a job, and a grad school acceptance will come - I can start doing things :)

So does that mean today is my first day of unemployment? Lets not think about that.

With the looming employment waiting for me (fingerscrossedlotsofprayerspleasehireme), I have found some adorable outfits that I need. Cause the clothes bring the job - right? Too bad they don't come free!

Since I (hopefully) will be working with college students - I will have days where I will need to be dressed in suits and such, and days where I can be a little more business casual.

All of these are via pinterest - DUHHHHH!

This would be perf with some tights and heeled brown boots. I also might wear it to a UVA game this fall since we have season tickets. Don't tell my parents. They would call me a traitor. This is actually Quicksilver. Who knew they made adorable preppy stuff like this?!? Via

Apparently I am loving some striped dresses. This one is from J.Crew and I think this would be an adorable casual day in the office outfit! via

Throw on a structured jacket and this would be great for a meet and great with potential students - love! via

Y'all know how much I love my jean jacket - but I would likely leave it off of this outfit for a more office appropriate look. It seems like dresses and boots are my fav fall looks ;) via

LOVE THIS! Oh my goodness - so classic! It would look great with colored jewelry/cardigan. So White House Black Market - and so me. Ahhh. via

Another home run. I love winter white with darker fall colors. And the belt cinches perfectly! Ahhhh. via

I think it is safe to say a few things about my hopes and dreams for a job. I hope the job is in the fall at all times. I hope boots are work appropriate. And I hope it pays a lot so I can afford all of these clothes. Anyone wanna hire me? ;)

Happy Tuesday!

Jack

I love Jack.

Jack Rogers... on Gilt.com today for cheap! And Crystal is giving some away as well (go check it out as long as you enter for me... ;) ). Oh how I love Jack Rogers. I am even wearing my Black ones today :)

I also love Jack Black. Especially with a few of his Tenacious D songs. I won't tell you which one because you will think less of me. But it does have a line that says "I'm not gonna cook it but I'll order it from Zanzibarrrrrr" in it. And I love him in the Holiday. Ahhh, how presh he is with Kate Winslet.

Jean JACKets. Especially this adorable one from my one true love, J. Crew. And lets be real. My other true love is the jean jacket. I have had the same one since freshman year of high school. It is going on 10 years around here people. So flyyyy.

Mine, in fact. Has seen me through several trips, years and pounds, as seen here:

High school graduation party chugging out of a baby bottle. Don't ask.

Summer after Freshman year of college in Knoxville for a wedding with Hev (not pictured, obvi). Man those Freshman 15 look good on my chin. And the greasy bangs look good on my forehead. Hoootttt!

Feeding babies the same year. I probably should have focused more on feeding the baby and less on feeding myself at this point.

Hilton Head with sorority sisters my Junior year. Delta Delta Delta til I die y'all.

Scotland (and London) with the English dept. summer after Junior year.

The Blacksburg bar scene. Loving the hat accessory with this one.

Atlanta with my BFF's last summer.

And finally friends - my favorite Jack saying... in that you don't know Jack ;)

Wishin' and Hopin' and Thinkin' and Prayin, Plannin' and Dreamin'

Summer who has the most adorable little girl, Kelcee, posted this song as a blog post title a bit ago and it has been in my head ever since!

It is such a true title for what is going on in my life right now as well. On a side note: if you haven't seen My Best Friend's Wedding (which this is the opening track), do it now. Ah, such a great story. And while I don't love the ending - I love every other second of the movie. Julia at her best, that is fo sho!

via

But anyways, right now all I can do is wish, hope, think and plan... and it is killing me!! I am such a planner by nature, although life rarely goes according to my plans. I think my interview on Friday went pretty well - and I know I would like the position. But, I don't have a gut feeling right now about it. Do I think that they liked me? Yes. But I have no idea whether they interviewed other people they might have liked better.

So right now I am just looking at apartments in the area of the job, trying not to get attached to anything and dreaming of what life would be like if Stuart was just down the road instead of two hours away. It's pretty easy to daydream about not having to get up at the buttcrack of dawn to drive a few hours home (lets be real - I never leave when I am supposed to). It's also pretty easy to think about the immediate fall together. Going to football games, traveling some, our annual trip to Carter Mountain. Ahhh... how nice it would be.

I am so not good at living in the moment, and I am trying so hard to not let the daydreaming and planning take over my life. This will (hopefully) be the last time I am living at home with my parents, my last summer in the 757 with some of my best friends, and my last time living with beach access within 5 minutes.

I am constantly reminding myself of this verse, an ever so popular one and for darn good reason:

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. "
Jeremiah 29:11

In other news - I went to the wedding of a dear high school friend of mine this weekend. Y'all it was OUT in the boonies. I had no cell service at all and I was gone for hours. Needless to say, I think this is the first time Stuart has ever worried about my safety. Not fun, is it babe ;)

She was a b-e-a-utiful bride and I LOVED her dress. I also loved catching up with some friends from high school... it was like a mini reunion, without the people you don't want to see.

Here are Lauren and I :) :

Annnddd I caught the bouquet. I clearly had to do a reenactment for Stuart the next morning (it was a really small ceremony so no one had dates!):

I am looking forward to being home a little bit as I finish up my field study. It will be nice not to live out of a suitcase for a weekend :)

Happy Monday!

Thursday Thoughts

Happy Thursday y'all :)

There are so many things I want to share with you, so a random blerby post you get!

  • The Sisterhood of the Traveling Bracelet :) The beautful Bethany had a wonderful idea to bring bloggers together and was sweet enough to include me. And we would love to include you too! Bop over to Bethany's  to learn more. I can't wait for the bracelet to get to me! The first bracelet sister is Amanda who is displaying it on her blog today :)
  • Along with my interview tomorrow, I got a call yesterday about another interview for early in August! Praise the Lord, at least the ball is rolling :)

  • My ankle is NOT broken, thank goodness. I will have to do therapy, but I would much rather do that than spend the rest of the summer in a boot. Another shout out to the big guy for that answered prayer!

He could look like this if he wanted to. Picture via , another awesome paint job by me.

I have 2379534593845 things to do before I leave for my interview so short and sweet is the name of the game today :)

Bummed

Remember how I had these big plans to run the full marathon this year? How I read books and made plans and signed up to run for St. Jude? How I dusted off the treadmill in my bedroom and told everyone my plan so I would be held accountable?

Weeellll, my foot had other plans. After going to the doctor yesterday because the swelling in my foot still hasn't gone down, I was told that the full isn't going to happen this year. And for that, I am super sad.

It is either severely sprained or broken (I will get the results today), both of which will require me to stay off of it for several weeks. If it is a sprain (fingers crossed!!), I will need therapy and if it is a break, I will be wearing a boot. Not your best summer fashion accesory- that is for sure.

Photo via, text via my awesome Paint skills. You're welcome.
(I am thanking the good Lord I won't have to wear what is on the other foot. White high socks and nurses shoes? No thank you.)

Needless to say, I am heart broken. Plus with the no running and all the eating I've been doing, these pants are getting tight too. Double heart break. (Although, I can control the eating haha).

I am going to try and drop down for the half in hopes I can still raise the money and run a race. After all, the important part is raising money for the kids!

In other news - I had a phone interview yesterday that went well and I have an in person interview on Friday! This job would be about thirty minutes from Stuart and is right up my ally in terms of what I want to start my career doing. The lady who interviewed me is so incredibly sweet and we got along so well. Any prayers or good juju would be wonderful!

Can we say rollercoaster of emotions day? Ha!

Have a great Wednesday! And go on a run for me, would ya?

Blogger 411

"So, you guys, what is the 411? What has everybody been up to? What is the hot gossip? Tell me everything! What are you guys listening to? What's the cool jams?"

Name that movie!

Anyways, adorable Becky at From Mrs. to Mama is hosting a linkup to help bloggers get to know each other better and I thought I'd join in the fun :)

1. How long have you been blogging? And what got you started on blogging? Has your blog changed?

I've been blogging for a few years now on and off. I first started my blog when I studied abroad in London the summer after my junior year to keep everyone updated and to keep a journal for myself. It has definitely changed from a travel documentation into a more daily life thing. I love having it just to see what I've done and where I've been :).

2. Did you go to college? If so where, and what did you study?

Yes! And only the best university ever, Virginia Tech! But seriously - no where else compares. I have a B.A. in English with a focus in Professional Writing and a B.S. in Human Development. I wasn't ready to leave after just one degree. I'm still not sure I was ready to leave, haha!

My college bffs and I before a football game. My roommate Nicole and sorority sister Heidi.
 3. Where have you traveled?
I've been to Scotland, London, the Bahamas and Canada, as well as several places in the United States.

On a cannon at Edinburgh Castle!

Caitlin and I in front of the Parent Trap house!!

In London for the Queen's birthday. This is how close we were!

Visiting Oxford for the day, where they filmed Harry Potter. It was so cold, we all bought sweatshirts!
Atlantis, in the Bahamas last summer.

Visiting Labatt's brewery in London, Ontario with Heather last summer!4. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?
I'd probably go on a shopping spree and buy all the stuff I have saved in shopping bags on websites ;)

5. What are your 3 biggest pet peeves?
  • Poor grammar when it comes to stupid stuff, like the difference between lose and loose or their, there, and they're.
  • Bad drivers, to include slow, dangerous and in my way drivers haha.
  • Smoking. I hate being around smoke, and I really hate when people smoke around children.
6. What is your favorite movie?
When Harry Met Sally. My all time fav. I could watch it over and over again. Or Father of the Bride. Love me some romcoms, for sure.

7. What is your drink of choice; wine, beer, or liquor. Or Water, Soda, Tea?
Beer, more specifically, Michelob Ultra. And out of the next three, water, for sure.

8. What is something you enjoy to do when you have me time?
I love to curl up with a good book on the beach. I love the combination of listening to the waves, with the sun beating down and getting lost in a book. Ahhhh.

9. If you could have a $10,000 shopping spree to one store, which store would it be?
I have two answers - sorry Becky! For every day life stuff, Target - hands down. But for clothing, J.Crew. They have such classic stuff and make it a little bit trendy. Which is way my style.

10. Share with us an embarrassing moment of your past? Or present.
Weeellll, I cannot believe I am sharing this. But Stuart's graduation weekend I accidentally "poofed" in front of his dad. I cried I was so embarassed. And I rarely get embarassed about anything. But oh my goodness, my cheeks are red just thinking about it now.

11. What day would you love to relive again?
Since I'm not married or engaged and I don't have kids - this is a little bit of a hard one for me. I'd love to go back and relive the day that Stuart and I had our first kiss though. We spent the day driving around Colonial Parkway and ended up at the beach to kiss in the rain. I'd love to go back and remember some of the details though.

12. If your life was turned into a movie... what actor would play you?
People have told me I look like two actors - Laura Prepon from That 70's Show, and Alyson Hannigan from the American Pie movies and my fav, How I Met Your Mother.
Out of those two, Alyson Hannigan, hands down. I love love love her as Lily on HIMYM and I think she is just hilarious.

13. What are the jobs you had in high school/college/the early years?
I spent my high school "career" selling hot dogs at the beach. I got to wear shorts and my bathing suit, I was paid in cash and I got a tan. Perfect job!

14. Show us a picture from high school or college.
Since y'all see pictures from college all the time, here is a picture from my high school prom. I was either yelling or sneezing. Either way, I look reaaaallll good. Side note: the girl on the end in the light blue dress is getting married this weekend and I am going. Crazy!!

15. If you could travel anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go?
I would go back to Europe, for sure. I'd love to go back to Scotland, visit Ireland and France as well. Ahhhh.

16. Show us the most current picture of you or you, or your family, or anything of meaning to you.
This is the most current picture of my fam jam at a Hokie football game last fall. I love these people! I just wish Stuart was in the picture :). This is one of my most favorite pictures ever. And no, my sister and I don't look alike at all, haha.

17. Where do you see your life 5 years from now?
I see myself happy. Hopefully married and working as an academic advisor for a university. Visiting my family often and maybeee with a baby on the way. But mostly, I just see myself as happy and healthy, God willing.

Happy Tuesday!!

Weekend in Photos

This weekend we did a whole lotta nothing. It was glorious.

Thursday night we celebrated our annivesary with Mellow Mushroom and some mall browsing. It was delish. And I found a Hokie colored dress. Clearly, Stuart has always wanted to be a Hokie girl.

We also spent some time making fools out of ourselves in the car. This is how we plan to look in 50 years without our teeth.

I got some monogrammed wayfarers for our anniversary and I LOVE them.

I also made the easiest pie EVER, along with some enchaladas for dinner Friday night. Recipes to come! A big shout out to Pinterest on this one.

Annnnddd we went out for Bodo's Saturday morning and then ran some errands. For some reason, I had the urge to bop in Goodwill for some cheap fun. Thank goodness I did because I found a pair of LILLY shorts for 3.50. They are in the most fun summer print. Anyone know what it's called? The shorts are a bit bermuda-y for me, so I am going to get them altered, but for 3.50, how could I pass them up?? PTL for UVa sorority girls, seriously.
(Dress image via Ebay. Name that print!)

Sunday we tried a Methodist church via Stuart's request. It was really nice. But also had a really old congregation. More church shopping it is. I will say they one-upped the Baptists because they sent us home with some DELICIOUS cinnamon bread that we wolfed down with coffee when we got home. Did I mention we went to the 8:30 service. So early.

We also finished a new series on FX, called the League. It is hilarious. And a sitcom, which are my favs. It's about a fantasy football team. If you like football and aren't sensitive about ball jokes, check it out. The first two season are on Netflix. Stuart let me know that the married couple that both participates in the league reminds him of us. Take that how you choose, haha.

Also, if you have a few minutes and a few prayers - I finally got an interview for a job that I would love! It is a phone interview at 10am tomorrow and I am so incredibly nervous. It would be such a great position for me in the season of life I am in, and it is much closer to Stuart. Eeeeekkk!

Happy Monday!

Friday Letters

We made it! It's Friday! Which makes it the perfect time to link up with beautiful Ashley for Friday Letters. Seriously, random thoughts for things/people/places and putting them into an organized list... Ashley, you are my hero :).

Dear delicious Better Than S*x Cookies
Your name could not be more accurate. However, you are not allowed in my house anymore because I cannot focus on anything else. They are not a good breakfast either. Walk out the door before you become permanently on my hips.
Love, Cookie Monster

Dear Stuart,
I hope we are this fun when we are old and have no teeth. Thanks for a low key night - it was perfect. You know the way to my heart... Mellow and shopping :) Kisses, Me

Dear Bank Account,
Please have more money so I can shop more. Just take it from some millionaire that won't notice. XOXO, Shopaholic and Sad

Dear New Boyf,
Stop looking so scared. You know you want to be with me forever. Don't mind my hand up your rear. That's protocol. Hugs! Your Vanilla

Dear Ankle,
HEAL! Seriously though, I feel sluggish and really unprepared since I haven't been able to run in two weeks. This marathon will not happen unless everyone is a team player... INCLUDING YOU. If I don't hear good news Tuesday I may cut you off to spite you and get one of those new titanium ones that won't hurt when I bend it. OVER YOU. No love, The rest of Megan

Dear Claire,
You're welcome - Fall will always be the best. Love, Sweaters and Boots Forever

Y'all head over and link up!!

Tres, Trois, Drei

For three years now, Stuart has put up with my quirks, my faults and my impatience. I don't know how he does it - but I am so glad he does :)

[ Disclaimer: This is probably going to be mushy, gross, rambling and picture filled. Feel free to click the X, I promise I won't be mad :) ]

Boots,

I am so incredibly thankful you are in my life. I honestly don't know what I would do without you. You are my giggle partner, my voice of reason, my hand holder, my financial advisor (which we can work on hehe), my music connoisser, my forever date, my football expert, my prayer encourager, my photographer, my partner, my best friend and my love.

You know exactly how to calm me down when I get myself worked up and just seeing your face relieves all of my fears and doubts. You put us first. You find the best in me.

You are the hardest worker I know. You are the smartest man I know (well, except for Daddy - and you're okay with that!). You show your romantic side by simply caring about me, by driving four extra hours because I have a sprained ankle and you are worried about me driving home and having to slam on the brakes.

You are humble and kind. You love everyone you meet, and everyone you meet loves you. You are everything I never knew I always wanted in a partner.

You have the cutest scruffy face and bubble butt. Your hands always warm up my cold ones and your soft lips match my lips and forehead perfectly. Your affection for J.Crew clothes makes you the best dressed guy I know (thanks to your momma!).

You have a warm family that has accepted me simply because you love me. You fit into my family the best way you know how and they love you for it. You even found a way to get along with my crazy sister ;).

So thank you. Thank you for letting me hop on your life journey and for holding my hand through it all. Thank you for teaching me that being yourself is a good thing, and that I don't need to worry what others think or say. Thank you for being you and loving me.

I can't wait to see what the next years bring :)

I love you to the moon and back,
Boots
